+ Long weekend. Had dinner with parents. Did a lot of faffing around aside from that. I feel like I didn't really do much aside from sleep and watch movies.

+ Some people invited me out to a thing, then cancelled but forgot to inform me. I didn't find out until the afternoon on the day it was going to happen, when I sent a text to check on the time (though luckily with enough notice that it wasn't a big deal). I'm still kind of annoyed about it. Like, on the one hand, I didn't really want to go to this thing anyway. On the other hand... dude, seriously? They want to reschedule, but I'm 50/50 on whether I'll decline.

+ Watched Akira Kurosawa's Dreams. Beautiful film, but very very artsy. It's an anthology of eight vignettes or "dreams", each inspired by an actual recurring dream Kurosawa had. Some are more fantastical than others. I'm glad that I took the time to watch it, but I'm also very glad that it was not my first Akira Kurosawa film - I don't think it would have been a good introduction to his work. Very recommended for Art Film enthusiasts though.

+ [Hetalia] Came across someone grumbling about the prevalence of SE/FI and the lack of other FI pairs, and on the one hand yeah I feel that, but on the other hand they were going on about how they've never seen work with other FI pairs except as a joke, and I'm like - hold on. Excuse me. Dude, you haven't been looking. Sure, there isn't a lot, but I've never seen a NO/FI or EE/FI shipper who wasn't 100% earnest and enthusiastic. There aren't a lot of fanworks out there, but there are some, and a lot of them are quite nice. Pairings other than those two are much fewer, but every so often something unexpected turns up. You just have to go looking, man. Or make your own. ...Anyway, it did remind me of a No/Fi story I've had notes for that I never did get around to writing. Maybe I'll try to write it when I'm on vacation in November. Not that I'll be sharing it with that asshole, but I do like the idea and it'd be nice to get it on paper.

NaCraMaMo Here at Dreamwidth

1) Social media use is declining world wide but still going up in the U.S. Yet younger users are increasingly posting and using less as they develop privacy concerns. Read more... )

2) Speaking of investing more time in crafts, I'm taking part in [community profile] nacramamo for the first time. The goal is to post daily about crafts in progress or finished. Here's what I've got so far.

Also, as I was asked about this on one of my posts, yes, the necklaces are available for sale. I am also offering them in exchange for donations to Pillowfort.. Pillowfort also applies donations towards Premium features.

3) Over on [community profile] tv_talk there's been various conversations about things that have changed since short seasons and irregular hiatuses. I was reminded today that one of them is Halloween episodes. I know that in the UK one-off episodes for Christmas are fairly common but not so in the US. And not all shows take note of Halloween either regularly or at all. But it is fun to guess the release date of an episode when you see what seem like definite Halloween themes in them.

4) Strangely enough when I caught up on S2 of Hacks, there wasn't any indication there were further seasons available. I blame Max, which is really wonky about these things. Read more... )

5) I've posted the last of my May trip photos over at [community profile] common_nature, featuring Mount Shasta, San Francisco and the San Luis Reservoir.

I have two skeins of Malabrigo Mechita that I have no idea what to do with. I did have something in mind when I bought them, but now I have no idea what it was. At one point I started making a scarf in a pattern I've done before, but today I changed my mind and unravelled the thing. Anyway, it's definitely enough for both a scarf and a hat, and there's no end to nice fingering-weight patterns out there, so I'm sure I'll find something nice. ...Too many options, really. Maybe I'll limit my search to my existing pattern library. (Or suggestions.)

I'm also sitting on enough worsted weight yarn to make a blanket. Maybe I could do that. Or I could make some socks with one of the random skeins I have hanging around. Or... Or most likely I will do none of the above. :Va

Today was weird. I forgot to turn off my alarm, so I woke up at 6:30 as usual. Judo was cancelled, so I could relax a little instead of rushing around. I ended up watching a movie while unravelling that scarf. ...Then I spent most of the rest of the day faffing around when I should have been doing chores, but, well, anyway.

Ryo Akiyama

Recently found out more about that other kid in Digimon Tamers and his connection with Rika Nonaka. As it turns out, he's the protagonist of some Digimon games released for the WonderSwan gaming system which connects Digimon Adventure 1 and 2 with Tamers, with the Tamers Anime being the conclusion to his story.

Ryo's connection to Rika is that he's the sole person she ever lost to in the Digimon card championships years before the events of Tamers, and when he disappeared she became the Digimon Queen. Mind blown.

Spy X Family Season 3- No Spoilers

Watched the first episode of the series on its third season and so far, so good. Anya seeks to protect the world without letting her foster parents know about her telepathic powers, Loid and Yor try keeping the family appearances without revealing their identity to each other, and Agent Nightfall seems to have more to go on around. The episode didn't show much about Loid's current task at hand, but being the first episode, I'm sure that will change. No word on Yor's obsessive brother yet either.

Hope any reading this has been able to watch it as well. I'm sure it won't disappoint.

Some Vengeful Princess stories

The Common Event:
A Prince and his mistress hold a public ball, attended by all the Prince's supporters, while the King and Queen are away. At this ball (henceforward 'the ball' or 'the betrayal ball') the prince accuses the princess of a number of crimes that boil down to "bullying the mistress". Often there's an accusation of having pushed the mistress down a flight of stairs. As punishment for these crimes, the Prince annuls his engagement to the Princess, and announces his intention to marry the mistress instead.

These stories involve a Princess who, ultimately, doesn't simply head off and live her life somewhere else.

Now for some Story. )

Back!

I am home from being away for the weekend. A weekend away was just what I needed, it was lovely to see some old friends.

My journey back, however, was rather horrible, I had just left the place I was staying when I started to get stomach pains. I managed until I got to Birmingham when I started to get diarrhoea.

For the rest of the journey I was in the train loo every half an hour. Even today I am still not quite well - I think it is a 48 hour bug. I feel a bit dizzy and not quite the ticket.

The cats seem vaguely happy to see me back, but have retreated to my bedroom. For the very first time last night they were both on my bed without handbags at dawn breaking out. Perhaps they felt sorry for me.

Edited to add: while I was away, Storm Amy brought my back fence down. This is the second time my fence has come down in North Wales winds. My insurance does not cover fences, hedges or gates, so I have to find funds to put the fence back up. I have no idea where that is going to come from.

Watching blue exorcist

I first learned of this Anime when reading the first volume of the Manga its adapted from, and it got me interested. I'm currently watching as many episodes as I can of it. It does make me feel entertained and get that "good feeling" out of it as well.

Anyone else has thoughts on it?

ask for autographs or kiss you on the cheek

I was recognised in the supermarket today—a couple stopped me and said, You're a singing person! which I had to agree was the case. Most amusing. They recognised Beast, too, but did not say which particular concert they might have attended.

Poor Sable. Last night we were watching the final episode of "Altered Carbon" and there was a very loud crash coupled with a flash, and she levitated and scrabbled across my coffee table, leaving an overturned water glass and an upset coffee mug in her wake, and fled to hide. I don't suppose the surround sound helped.

I'm contemplating what to knit next. It's time to get a fancy shawl into the drawer ready for next time I'm asked for a raffle prize. I'm thinking this one:
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/tilia-5
in a soft green/blue, lightly sparkly mix which will be very pretty. But I'm also a bit distracted by this one:
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/wingspan-3
I have a graduated cake in a red/yellow colourway.

Opinions?
