I'm glad! Though sorry to hear your circle has been so negative. I think it's a good movie in its own right, and a good Star Trek movie on top of that! I'm also a Cumberbatch fan, and thought he did a really good job in it.
I'm not very happy with the absolutist, un-nuanced discourse I've seen a lot lately (mostly on tumblr where the alternative is nigh impossible to find). It's like an echo-chamber, where everyone is competing to be the most outraged. It does bad things to varied discussion.
Also, I've seen a lot of people complain that Into Darkness is just a remake of The Wrath of Khan. How blind would one have to be to believe that? It makes me wonder if they've even seen TWoK (or Space Seed, for that matter).
