Saw the new pics from the Star Trek video game that comes out at the beginning of the next year, and it looks awesome.

So here's the closeup, courtesy of Collider's pics from Comic Con in London last weekend. Love the outfits and weapons, and I hear Pine and Quinto are actually going to do the voices, too!

Their fighting styles are going to be different, and it'll matter who you choose; Kirk for a more direct approach and especially upgraded weapons, and Spock for the stealth mode, and you'll be able to do the nerve pinch and mind meld, as I understand it (yay!).

Apparently, "Paramount is using the game as a virtual bridge between the two movies, offering an original story that was conceived by the writers/producers of the movies Bob Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof and written by God of War game scribe Marianne Krawczyk." (Link to article with interview)They have the lensflares down, at least. XD

And you'll be fighting the Gorn! Looks fascinating. And I don't have to build my own cannon either, though perhaps the upgrades are an allusion?
Here's the trailer, too.
So yeah, no idea how canon it will be, but if it's good (as most of the comics were not) I have no objections. I'm always leery of license games, but this is handled by Digital Extremes (who made Bioshock), so I'm a little hopeful.

Date: 2012-11-01 12:16 am (UTC)I love the thought of all the possibilities in the AOS universe now, and while I thought most of the comics were really bad, the concept was interesting. There are so many things to explore! A game is perfect for that.

Date: 2012-11-01 12:42 am (UTC)It's a first person shooter in a 3D environment, so the controls may feel a bit complicated at first, if you're not used to that sort of game (I wasn't, and it did take a while for me to familiarise myself with the controls). The game starts out with easy enemies and lots of explanations (you get a guide, of sorts, who is part of the story, and I just love how they managed to weave that in naturally), though, so just relax and try things out. And don't be afraid to die! You'll just have to start from a point slightly earlier.
I think it's categorised as horror, and yeah, it's pretty creepy and has truly horrifying elements and concepts, but it's also filled with action which makes it more of an adventure, to me. I mean, it's not like Silent Hill, which I can't actually play when I'm alone (because it scares me half to death).
I hope you have fun with it!
