Went to see Looper with my brother today. It was pretty good, actually! Women are sort of... I don't know, not proper characters, which get a little strange, but the story and the male characters were close to great, IMO.

I also had the most horrifying scene I've seen in a long time.

Yeah, the Seth scene. Just... Yeah, time travel has some horrible possibilities when it comes to torture. *shudder*

My brother told me that Jason Gordon-Levitt apparently were wearing a prosthetic on his nose in order to look more like Bruce Willis throughout the film, which amused me.

Good things:

The acting, definitely. Bruce Willis and JGL looked more alike than they should be able to, heh. The kid was good, which was surprising. I didn't recognise Jeff Daniels, but since my brother recognises everyone I didn't have to.

The cinematography, as far as I could tell.

The basic story. I loved the ending for the main character.

The personal motivations driving everything, and how the theme was invoked.

The worldbuilding and what was shown of it. We got enough to understand the story, and it didn't take over (as it sometimes can in Sci-Fi). Sure, in TV-series more is necessary, but for something as short as a film, it was perfect.

Bad things:

The women. Seriously, they're all prostitutes? Well, all right, a few of them were wives and mothers, but they all only exist as accessories, and no one seems to think this is strange. No female Loopers, Gats, crimelords, nothing. Very weird.

Also, the mother is pretty much a plot robot. Who runs slower than a small child, and falls over for no apparent reason. Oh, and decides to use the visiting assassin as a sort on-call sex appliance, though that part was awesome. In a twisted sort of way. The romantic music that was playing was a bit confusing, though...

But seriously, that was a clumsy short cut to a heart to heart between them. Someone should tell the writer that major characters look weird when they're used as plot devices.

It was a good movie, considering. And it really got me thinking about the PG13 thing. The violence and horror in this film did a lot for the realism and impact of the story which I think would have been extremely watered down if it had been PG13.

Oh! Forgot to add; when I went to the loo before the film

I believe in Sherlock - it is written on the wall, on the door to the bathroom stall...
